Volunteer Money Mentors

Job description

Hours of work: Variable but minimum of 6 months commitment and 3-6 hours per week
Place of work: Northamptonshire
Based at: Accommodation Concern HQ, Kettering, Northamptonshire
Reporting to: Advice Team Leader

Accommodation Concern is a charity who supports those struggling with their finances, housing and benefits through our advice centre, food bank and supported accommodation. Many of our clients are in the most vulnerable groups as they were just keeping their heads above water in struggling to manage their finances on a day to day basis. Many of them have lost employment, have had their hours reduced, have children at home wanting food who would have been eligible for free school meals and will also be seeing an increase in their fuel costs.

Our volunteer run Community Money Advice (CMA) centre was set up to provide the support to anyone needing support to find a way to manage their money worries. Providing debt and money advice is well known to transform people lives and makes an impact of the community.

As a Money Mentor volunteer you will be given the training to help people on a variety of levels:

  • Producing a budget and/or income/expenditure
  • Practically supporting clients to stick to their budgets
  • Swtiching energy/phone providers etc to save money
  • Identifying additional benefits/income opportunites

Duties:

To play an active part in the Accommodation Concern Advice Centre team, including:

  • Delivering high quality, non-judgemental support to complete forms
  • Providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere to clients
  • Assisting with administrative duties related to client casework including using an online database (training provided)
  • Attend monthly team meetings
