Plain-English information about living in AC supported accommodation.
Living with AC
When you move into AC supported accommodation, you sign an occupancy agreement. This is a licence agreement, not a tenancy. It gives you permission to live in one of our rooms and use the shared spaces while you receive support from Accommodation Concern.
You will usually have your own room and share facilities such as the kitchen, bathroom, lounge or garden with other residents. The agreement is personal to you. You cannot pass it to someone else, take in a lodger, or swap rooms without permission.
This page is a simple guide. Your signed occupancy agreement and current house rules are the formal documents, so please ask your key worker if anything is unclear.
Important
The purpose of your stay is to help you build stability, confidence and the skills needed to move towards independent living.
House rules
No drugs, alcohol, weapons, violence, threats, harassment or criminal activity in or around the property. Serious incidents may mean you are asked to leave immediately.
Keep noise down, especially after 9pm. Treat housemates, neighbours, staff, contractors and visitors with respect.
Keep your room clean and tidy, clean up after yourself in shared areas, use bins properly, and report repairs promptly.
Your room is your main place to live. Tell us if you will be away for more than two nights so we know you have not abandoned your room.
You are responsible for your visitors. Usually no more than two visitors are allowed at one time, and visitors must leave by 11pm unless AC has agreed otherwise in advance.
Do not block exits, wedge fire doors open, tamper with alarms or safety equipment, use candles, deep fat fryers, portable gas or oil heaters, or store flammable materials.
Support
Supported accommodation works best when residents engage with support. You will have a key worker and an individual support plan. We may ask you to attend appointments, house meetings, life skills sessions or other agreed support.
If you repeatedly miss appointments, refuse support, or do not engage with your plan, this can put your accommodation at risk. If something is making it hard to engage, tell your key worker early so we can work with you.
Money
Your occupancy agreement will tell you what you need to pay and when. Service charges can be paid by standing order or in cash.
If you are struggling to pay, speak to your key worker as soon as possible. It is much easier to help early than after arrears build up.
