Online debt referral tool helps people start sooner

A digital first step that supports, but never replaces, regulated debt advice.

Debt advice

AC's online debt referral tool helps people share initial information about their situation before speaking with a qualified debt adviser.

Accommodation Concern online debt referral tool

The tool is designed to reduce the fear of the unknown. People can provide information about income, household costs and debts at a time that suits them, helping advisers understand the situation earlier and reducing delay before meaningful support begins.

The tool can show general information about common debt options, but it does not provide personal debt advice, make recommendations or confirm eligibility. Suitability can only be confirmed after a full assessment by a qualified adviser.

The original development was supported through the Money and Pensions Service Debt Advice Modernisation Fund, which helped advice organisations improve access, reduce waiting time and modernise parts of the advice journey.

AC's debt advice remains free, independent and regulated. The online route complements adviser-led support, including telephone and face-to-face appointments where people need them.

The point

Less repetition. More adviser time.

1

Starting information

People can provide useful details about money, household costs and debt before contact.

2

Better preparation

Advisers can see what is going on earlier and focus the appointment on the right next steps.

3

Clear boundaries

The tool gives general information only. Personal advice comes from a qualified debt adviser.
